Equipment reliability problems plague many manufacturing operations causing late deliveries, high production costs and reduced quality. Equipment reliability improvement projects are one of the best ways to apply our expertise and experience to your operations. We employ material testing, stress analysis, FMEA, and other techniques to identify and correct reliability problems with immediate and measurable results.

EFI defined and facilitated a solution to ongoing commercial printing equipment failure in a timely and cost effective manner. Using a Fault Tree Analysis approach, the EFI team established the failure’s root cause. EFI’s work enabled the client to engage the OEM with specific evidence, and to take action to prevent the failure’s recurrence.

The plant’s primary clay extruder had been plagued for many years with high maintenance costs and downtime associated with its drive and bearing arrangement. The EFI team developed a new design including a new drive stand, gear reducers, bearings and mounts, and extrusion shafts to resolve the original equipment’s primary design flaws.

EFI identified the source of overheating for two large rectifier units and developed a solution to allow those units to operate at maximum capacity. Through field data collection, heat transfer calculations and coordination with outside vendors, the EFI team quantified correct size requirements and provided specification for larger replacement units.
